Argentina: Total Solar Eclipse and Night Sky

“Beautiful, defiant and intense, Argentina seduces with its streetside tango, wafting grills, fútbol (soccer), gaucho culture and the mighty Andes. It’s one formidable cocktail of wanderlust.” Agreed.

Project description

Firstly, Argentinians are excellent hosts. In Buenos Aires (BA), I was introduced to a bustling mix of royal hospitality and exploration. Their city is expressive, proud and artistic, with people who are exceptionally warm and endearing.  From BA I flew to Mendoza, where we packed the car, hit the road and commenced our astro safari.  On July 2nd 2019, the total solar eclipse was visible in Bella Vista, Argentina just before sunset. Latitude: -30.45; Longitude: -69.15. Maximum eclipse was around 5:40pm. The weather conditions were perfect with no clouds in the sky and no wind to kick the dust up over this arid landscape. This was also my first experience of a southern night sky, and it was absolutely amazing. Tony has an excellent write up of the trip here.
