New Mexico: White Sands National Park
Great wave-like dunes of gypsum sand have engulfed 275 square miles of desert, creating the world’s largest gypsum dunefield. White Sands National Monument preserves a major portion of this unique dunefield, along with the plants and animals that live here. On Dec. 20, 2019, this landmark became the 62nd official national park in the United States and renamed to White Sands National Park.
Project description
This was an extension of the Big Bend National Park trip that Rush Dudley and Stan Honda planned for us. We camped between these white wave-like white dunes which was a unique experience. We did not get the clearest skies for the one night we were there, but the clouds were dramatic and seemed to be an extension of the dunes.
